NOTES
For my third album, Silencio, I composed and arranged a work with the dual goal of space and restraint. I spent two years looking for the space between the notes. I think I found it. I wanted to reflect a growing desire to escape the constant visual and aural bombardment we're all subjected to. Recorded at my home studio on a Yamaha C-7 grand piano, I added touches of accordion, glockenspiel, guitar and bass. I then asked the virtuoso cellist John Catchings over to add cello on seven of the tracks, and had additional support from my guitar-playing son Brennan Walsh, and clarinetist Jim Hoke. Brennan and I co-wrote the song "Escape Velocity", and I think it's one of the high points of the album. Chad Brown mixed the recording and had some great ideas when it came to the mix process. In the two years it took to create this album I found myself on some interesting paths I didn't expect, taking the music to some surprising new places.
